Wenn es um die Vorzeige-Bands im modernen und anspruchsvollen Metal-Bereich geht, fällt der Name Animals as Leaders in der Regel relativ schnell. Einerseits, weil die US-Amerikaner bislang sehr bemerkenswerte Alben veröffentlicht haben (und dabei die gefühlten Grenzen des technisch Machbaren immer wieder überschreiten). Andererseits, weil Bandleader Tosin Abasi mit seinem überirdischen Gitarrenspiel zahlreiche Jünger der seit längerem äusserst angesagten Modern-Metal- und Progressive-Bewegung in seinen Bann gezogen hat (dasselbe gilt natürlich auch für Matt Garstka & Javier Reyes). Auf ihrem neuen Album "Parrhesia" bündeln Animals as Leaders all ihre Stärken. Trotz aller Progressivität wirkt das Material wie aus einem Guss. Es ist eine wahre Freude in die Musik einzutauchen.
